A significant milestone has been achieved in Egypt’s mining sector as part of the country’s sustainability transformation. El Wadi for Mineral Resources and Oil Shale (Wadico) and ASUNIM MEA have signed a strategic development agreement during EGYPS 2026 to accelerate the company’s transition to clean energy.
The project was developed and will be implemented by ASUNIM Egypt, and represents a first for Egypt’s mining industry.
Under the project, a total of 3.2 MW solar power plants integrated with a total of 12.5 MWh battery energy storage systems will be installed at the El Shaghab site in Aswan. The project stands out as the first integrated micro-grid solar solution deployed in mining operations in Egypt.
The system is designed to supply the full energy demand of the mining site, including operational equipment, phosphate crushing lines, as well as camp and administrative facilities.
As a pioneering green mining initiative, the project is expected to save an approximate annual amount of 2.6 million liters of diesel and reduce carbon emissions by 7,300 tons per year, lowering long-term operating costs. It is anticipated to set a benchmark for sustainable production practices in the mining sector.
Advanced technology solutions for the project will be provided in collaboration with Huawei digital power, micro grid technology, ensuring high efficiency, reliability, and uninterrupted operation.
ASUNIM Group has established a strong track record in energy storage and hybrid system solutions across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. With over 70 MWh of energy storage experience so far, the company continues to deliver high-performance and sustainable energy solutions even under challenging site conditions.
